Supper at Emmaus

Experimental work combining two dimensional oil painting on canvas with projected film work. This piece began with studying Caravaggio's supper at Emmaus, in The National Gallery, London and recreating the composition using four of my fellow students. I filmed this digitally and experimented with combining this with a reproduction of the original painting, editing the material on final cut pro. This was projected onto a blank canvas onto which I painted traces of the re-enacted pose of Caravaggio's composition. The film is looped and one experiences a contrast between it sitting comfortably and uncomfortably on and within the canvas.

Olivia Project

This film is a silent portrait lasting four minutes of my daughter Olivia. It is my first attempt at presenting a portrait through film media, with the subject matter being which is closest to my heart. I was very influenced by Bill Viola's practice at this time.

A man tied around his waist, bound by the constraints of religion and social conditioning, without struggle, looks up towards the heavens attempting to see and feel some clarity. This is what I was attempting to express with this piece. The work of Jacob Epstein inspired me to produce sculpture in this way, a manner in which i have worked since my childhood
